Comprehensive On-Site School Health Screenings

Helping Schools Help the Children

KSS was established with one purpose: helping schools help the children. School Nurses and Family Resource Coordinators welcomed our services due to their overwhelming duty of providing screenings to all students. KSS uses state-of-the-art equipment to provide routine exams on children with parental consent. Parents are notified of any problems and referrals, and copies of results are provided to the school for each child's cumulative folder.

No cost to the school, district, or family
State-of-the-art equipment brought on-site
Results and referrals documented for each child's folder
Eyewear prescriptions provided at no charge by KSS
Vision Screenings
Board-Certified Ophthalmologist

Vision Screenings

A complete eye exam — not just an eye chart.

Children without a previous eye exam, or those experiencing eye or vision problems, are routed through the vision stations first. The Ophthalmologist checks the internal eye for disease, birth defects, and general vision impairments — and prescribes glasses if necessary. Eye referrals are directed to a local eye doctor or specialist for treatment and follow-up. Eyewear prescriptions are provided by KSS at no charge to the parent or school.

Hearing Screenings
Licensed Audiologist

Hearing Screenings

A full audiological evaluation — far beyond a standard school screening.

The Audiologist first examines the ear for areas of concern and problems that may interfere with hearing. Referrals for ear problems (infection, wax impaction, fluid, foreign objects) are directed to the child's primary care physician. The child is then directed to hearing stations where a full audiological evaluation is performed. Referrals for abnormal hearing results are directed to a local Audiologist. Most pediatricians do not offer a hearing evaluation of this depth and welcome these referrals.

Dental Screenings
Licensed Dentist

Dental Screenings

A complete dental exam — including the required Department of Education form.

The Dentist examines each student and completes the required Kentucky Department of Education dental form. Students needing immediate attention are flagged and the results are given directly to the school nurse. The exam covers the full oral cavity — head, neck, jaw, gums, and each individual tooth.
